I have been going away in the weekends to towns and villages nearby Arnhem. Usually by bike, weather permitting. As always I bring my camera with me and take loads and loads of photo's. Somehow I always end up with a few shots that are worth posting but I'm never quite sure where to post them to. Which blog is the right one?
So I've decided to start a new one soon called Out and About. I'll post the link here soon and add the link to the list of links on all my blogs.

Laurie if you happen to read this. The Out and About blog is something I am starting with you in mind as most of my days out lately have been to visit neighbouring castles. I know you're love of history has put you on a path to becoming a teacher. In some small way I hope you can use some of the pics. I promise to try and provide as much info as I can when I post. I know Clément would have loved to show you this corner of the world himself. It is with him in mind that I go out and discover/explore.

During this summer I often wondered what that noise was I heard from the tracks behind the building I work in. It sounded so familiar and yet so not of this time. Like every little boy I was really pleased to find out the tôôt-tôôt belonged to this beautiful old steam engine that passed through Arnhem Central Station once, sometimes twice a week. Definitely something I want to do someday!

What to do?

Seems I do have a split personality of sorts going on. Not that that comes as a big surprise, well at least not to me. I have recently started a new blog (yes another one) that I am dedicating to my love for Ireland. Over the years I have taken so many photo's of the places I have been there and suddenly on Sunday it felt like they needed a home online, so I jumped ahead and started posting some pics I took about 4 years ago.

But that still leaves me with what to do with Gmac-Gmac 1 & 2. It seems that Canada, Wuhan, Arnhem and my Garden are specific enough and need no further explanation. 1 & 2 are a different matter entirely, they leave me room to be more personal somehow. But what to post where? I was thinking of using Gmac2 for the photo's I have been taking of other places in The Netherlands I have been to i.e. Amsterdam, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, etc. and keeping Gmac1 for the more personal blogging and items I feel don't fit in any of the other blogs.

If anybody out there has any thoughts on the subject, let me know, input is more than welcome.

Pissing Man 12,5%

Across the street from where I work lurks a man I haven't seen for almost 15 years. He stands there quietly visible and yet not seen. His silhouet greets me every day. He has been patiently standing there day in day out, through rain, snow and sunshine. All he does is just stand there. I know not who he is. I only know he is known as Pissing Man. And for one brief moment two months ago he revealed himself to me. Today I saw him again as I have never seen him before.

When this work by Marc Quinn of a statue of a naked man, sporting an erection that pissed blood, was originally placed in the centre of Arnhem nearly 15 years ago as part of the Sonsbeek '93 Art Exhibition it caused quite a stir. Mind you the original setting across the street from the post office at the St. Jan's Square in front of Dutch Reformed Church might not have been the best place for a work of art like this.
Mark Quinn's work caused quite a number of complaints and was even vandalized. After the festival it was given a new home at the Museum of Modern Art in Arnhem. I can't remember if it was still in working order as it has been a long time since I've seen the Pissing Man reveal himself. Today, just by chance, I happened to be at work and noticed there was some work being done to it. A perfect opportunity to take a pic, I hope I can get a few more tomorrow.

My fascination with skies continues. Normally I don't post pictures that don't belong to me but when George sent me these I just had to share. These pics were taken by Tom in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. Tom has kindly given me permission to post these here for all to enjoy. Thank you Tom! And thank you George for asking! Now I really want to go see the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis as it is known here in the Netherlands. I don't fancy the cold up there but for magic like this I am more than willing to make the sacrifice.

I take pics. Sunsets have become an obsession of sorts. I call it my winter project but I know it is not a project for only one season. I can't wait to see what the other seasons have to offer and find out how the light changes in the sunset skies.

I woke up to about 2-3 inches of snow and a winter wonderland. I'm sad all of it has gone now, just a few big white lumps on the grass remain where someone tried to build a snowman.

Seeing as I already have another blog account you'd think that would be enough. But since it takes quite a while for the page to load a new one seemed in order somehow. So I have decided that i will post pics to this as well. Only this time I will dedicate it to what I see and am up to these days.
